 NON DEGREE-SEEKING STUDENTS

Important Information for Non-Degree Seeking Students
If you have never attended or have not registered for the past two semesters (not including summer) at FIU, you must complete and sign a Non-Degree Seeking Student form located at the bottom of the page. The form may be submitted in person at PC 130,or faxed to 305-348-2941 prior to the deadlines. Please ensure legibility of submitted documents. - To qualify for Florida in-state tuition you or your parent/legal guardian must be a US citizen, Permanent Resident Alien (with “green card”) or a legal alien granted indefinite stay by the Immigration & Naturalization Services (INS).
- You or your parent/legal guardian must have established a primary residence in Florida and have maintained a physical presence in Florida for at least 12 months prior to the first day of classes.
- You must bring, as proof of Florida residency:
Dependent - A person for whom more than 50% of his/her financial support is provided by a parent or legal guardian and is claimed on the most recent income tax return.
- Your parent’s/legal guardian’s most recent 1040 income tax form and at least two of the following: driver’s license, vehicle registration, and voter registration card.
Independent
- A person who provides more than 50% of his/her own financial support. If you are under 24 years of age and claiming independent, you must provide a copy of your most recent 1040 income tax return.
- Your driver’s license, vehicle registration, voter’s registration card.
* If you or your parent/legal guardian is not a U.S citizen, you must bring your Resident Alien Card or other INS document.
- Students with an F-1 visa issued from another institution must have a letter of authorization in order to apply as Non-Degree Seeking Student. International students and those with F-1 visas should contact the Office of International Student Services (GC 355 or WUC 363) (305) 348-2421.
- Students with special circumstances regarding residency should contact the Registrars Office at (305) 348-2838.
- If someone else is processing your registration, he/she must have a photocopy (or original) of your driver’s license or student identification and a signed letter from you authorizing them to do so.
- To utilize the internet registration system, you must obtain your student PIN when submitting your Non-Degree Seeking Student form.
- The automated registration system is accessible by the Web at MyFIU
- Registration for Non-Degree Seeking Students begins during the designated OPEN REGISTRATION PERIOD. Please see the Academic Calendar for specific dates and deadlines.
